Public Input Requested to Shape Big Sky’s Active Transportation Plan
March 26, 2026
The Active Transportation Plan is intended to improve access to transit, reduce reliance on personal vehicles, and support a year-round, livable mountain community.
The Big Sky Transportation District, in collaboration with the Big Sky Trails, Recreation & Parks District, Big Sky Community Organization, Big Sky Resort Area District (Resort Tax), and other community partners, is developing a comprehensive Active Transportation Plan to make it safer and easier for people to walk, bike, and roll in Big Sky. The plan will guide future investments in trails, sidewalks, crossings, and other non-motorized connections between neighborhoods, trailheads, public transit, and activity centers.
Help us create a vision for active transportation in Big Sky!
The Big Sky Transportation District has engaged Alta Planning + Design, a national leader in active transportation planning that previously helped create the 2019 Big Sky Master Trails Plan, to lead this work alongside local partners. The project is supported in part by a Big Sky Resort Area District microgrant and is coordinating with broader transportation and transit planning efforts in the community.
Community input is central to the success of the Active Transportation Plan, and the project team is asking for feedback from people who live, work, and recreate in Big Sky. It only takes a few minute to complete the online survey and highlight missing trails, sidewalks, crosswalks, or other pedestrian or biking connections. Local knowledge will help identify priority corridors and projects to improve safety, connectivity, and comfort for people walking, biking, and rolling.
The survey is available now through the Big Sky Active Transportation Plan website.
